How to use e-Citizens — registration, NIAS and credentials
The e-Citizens portal brings together electronic services from public authorities, but users do not register a separate account for each service. Registration is done through the National Identification and Authentication System — NIAS — using one of the accepted credentials. It is important to clearly distinguish access to the portal from a successfully completed request for a specific service.
What you need
- an accepted credential of the appropriate security level
- a device and internet connection that support the chosen method of registration
- PIN, password, token, or certificate belonging to the credential
- access to your personal inbox if you wish to receive official electronic messages
Step-by-step procedure
- On the official portal, open the service catalogue and select the procedure you wish to use.
- Click on registration and select the credential you already have from the NIAS list. The system displays its security level.
- Confirm your identity in the manner requested by the credential issuer. Do not enter your PIN or one-time password on a page of an unknown domain.
- After returning to the service, check your data, complete the procedure, and save the confirmation if offered.
- Log out of the service and NIAS, especially on a shared computer.
Online / e-Citizens
Not all credentials are the same. NIAS classifies them into security levels, and each e-service specifies the minimum acceptable level. If a specific service does not appear after registration or rejects the credential, check the official list of accepted credentials and the requirements of the service itself. Issues with tokens or certificates are resolved with the issuer. Open the official e-service or guide.
Costs and deadlines
Access to the portal does not have a uniform price or deadline as e-Citizens is not a single administrative procedure. The issuance of a specific credential, as well as the fees and deadlines of the specific service, depend on its issuer and the competent authority. Check the conditions on the official service page before submitting a request. If the procedure has a deadline, note the time of submission and download the confirmation. Simply registering on the portal does not mean that the form has been successfully submitted to the competent authority. Check the current official information.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to open a new account? There is no separate general registration for each service; an accepted credential is used via NIAS.
Why is my registration not sufficient for a certain service? The service likely requires a higher security level than that of the selected credential.
Is the Personal User Inbox the same as email? No. It is an official inbox within the public authorities’ messaging system; its notifications and settings are checked on the portal.
